Basic Internet Safety Tips for Families

  • Place the computer in a central area of the home, like a den or living room.  A child’s bedroom is not a good place to put the computer

  • Make using the Internet a family activity.
  • Be interested in what your child is doing online and monitor the amount of time they spend online.
  • Make sure your children understand that not everyone is who they claim to be when online.  They should NEVER give any personal or identifying information without first checking with a parent.
  • Discuss appropriate Internet use.  Stay actively involved—know their friends and what they are doing when online.
